BOOK: LORENZA THE SEA TURTLE
“Lorenza the turtle” arises as a Corporate Social Responsibility initiative of Pavimentos Colombia SAS, within the framework of the “Add your hands for Guajira” Alliance, led by the United Nations Global Compact Colombia Network.This initiative seeks to call for the importance of preserving species that are in danger of extinction, such as the green and hawksbill turtles that are typical of this region, as well as the general care of marine ecosystems. BOGOTÁ: THE CITY WE DREAM OF
In coherence with the 10 principles of the United Nations Global Compact, to which we have adhered since 2012, we partnered with the Institute of Urban Development (IDU) to develop an educational methodology, in order to train boys and girls between 7 and 10 years of age in civic culture, focused on the appropriation of the territory and the promotion of values that encourage coexistence.The methodology consists of a booklet with three modules: citizenship, territory and road safety. Likewise, it has a Box of physical and digital Tools that complement the activities in an accessible and playful way for the impacted boys and girls.LEARN MORE
SHRIMP PROJECT
The Camarones Project or "Self-sustainable communities for the construction of social capital" began in 2015 in the village of Camarones in Riohacha, La Guajira. Together with the Perraptú Reservation, located in the Los Flamencos Fauna and Flora Sanctuary, area of influence of the La Guajira Road Network, the project sought to develop sustainable projects by applying the Principles of Community Self-Management.The main problems identified were the difficulty in accessing drinking water and the inadequate management of solid waste, which affected the health of the residents, the aquatic and terrestrial flora and fauna, and had an impact on the low density of tourists.During the years of implementation, there have been multiple positive results. As of 2021, 2,800 tons of waste have been collected within the Sanctuary and disposed of in sanitary landfills. Also, there was an increase in flamingo sightings from 700 to 3,000 individuals, and 100% of the benefited families had access to water resources.DOWNLOAD BOOKLETWATCH VIDEO
TRANSMISSION OF ANCESTRAL KNOWLEDGE
During the development of the Camarones Project in La Guajira, the Program for the Strengthening of Artisan handicrafts was simultaneously implemented in order to reinforce the transmission of ancestral knowledge, specifically the Wayúu symbology, since the community identified the forgetfulness of the "kanas" woven in the traditional mochilas of the area.This gender-focused program promotes the economic empowerment of indigenous women, respecting the traditional symbology and culture of the Wayúu indigenous people.KNOW THE WAYUU SYMBOLOLOGY
ADD YOUR HANDS
The alliance for La Guajira, Suma tus Manos, was created in 2018 to promote the sustainable development of the Wayúu communities of Cabo de la Vela. It seeks to carry out a collaborative work between different public and private organizations along with the impacted community, to improve environmental, economic and social conditions. All this, under the leadership of Pavimentos Colombia and the UN Global Compact Colombia Network.As a result, different volunteer workdays have been carried out to collect garbage in the area, and thus keep the beaches and seagrasses free of waste that endanger the ecosystems of Cabo de la Vela and the Wayúu community. URBAN AND HOME GARDEN
As part of our commitment to improve the quality of life of our employees and the communities in the area of influence of our projects, we have developed an urban and home gardens project in the departments of Tolima, Cundinamarca and the city of Bogota, Colombia.This project is a sustainable practice of organic and chemical-free food production, monitored and accompanied by our expert team, which contributes to the food security of our stakeholders, and also reduces and reuses organic waste.LEARN MORE
BOOK OF DREAMS
As a contribution to the Sustainable Development Goal of Quality Education and the goals of the organization, Pavimentos Colombia developed in 2017 "The Dream Book". A pedagogical tool endorsed by UN Global Compact Colombia Network, which teaches children in our communities of influence about Human Rights and the Rights of the Child, building personal identity, how to be citizens of the world, and thus, contribute from their childhood to the construction of peace.
Psychological support and aid program
We are committed to the well-being of our employees and their families. Therefore, during the last 5 years we have invested more than $100M COP in healthcare and calamity assistance. Likewise, since 2020 we have implemented a psychological and psychiatric support program for our employees and their families, in case they require guidance and assistance, through strategic alliances with expert professionals.
Move for a cause
Our 'Move for a cause' program implemented since 2016, seeks to contribute to the physical and emotional health of our staff, financing bicycles as a sustainable mobility alternative. During the COVID-19 health emergency, we encouraged access to this means of transportation, prioritizing people with longer travel distances and the constant use of public transportation. In this way, we financed 30% of the value of the bicycle and the rest through zero-interest payroll deductions for our employees.
Responsible parenthood program
We promote responsible parenthood through workshops and training aimed at raising awareness among new fathers and mothers on issues such as breastfeeding, changing habits with the arrival of a new member and adjustment to this new stage.
Employability program in alliance with Adecco
During 2021, we formed an alliance with Adecco to train 52 women, family members of our staff who lost their jobs during the COVID-19 pandemic. We strengthened topics such as resume preparation, interview training and personal presentation, in order to empower them and provide tools that would allow them to find a job.
Circular economy and zero waste
We promote the circular economy in our processes, implementing strategies for the reduction, reuse, recovery and valuation of solid waste in the development of our activities. For this reason, we have the Fenalco Solidario Seal as a Company Committed to the Circular Economy, and we are certified by Icontec as Zero Waste.- Our circularity actions:
- Reuse and recovery of waste in our work sites.
- Sustainable management of organic waste through composting and biodigester bundles.
- Post-consumer waste management through authorized companies.
- We participate in the work of the Bottles of Love Foundation as part of our plastic waste management, with the delivery of more than 6 tons of plastic waste for use and transformation, by the end of the first half of 2022.
Climate change and carbon neutral
We are aligned with the National Carbon Neutrality Strategy and seek to strengthen the management of our organization's greenhouse gas emissions in order to achieve sustainable, low-carbon growth and thus contribute to the country's climate goals.- Our pathway to becoming a Carbon Neutral company includes:
- Carbon footprint measurement
- Reduction and offsetting of Greenhouse Gas missions.
- Carbon neutrality, establishing a management plan with mitigation actions and reduction targets in the short and medium term.
Sustainable water management
- We set up rainwater collection and reuse systems at our work sites.
- We have sewage water treatment plants that allow the recirculation and reuse of water in operations and processes within our own activity.
- We run awareness campaigns to save water consumption and protect water sources.
No to single-use plastic products (SUPs)
As part of our commitment to reduce the use of single-use plastics, we replaced beverage mixers, garbage bags, straws, food containers and packaging, among others, with biodegradable or reusable materials.We replace plastic bags with biodegradable materials and natural fibers such as hemp, jute, bags made from corn starch or kraft paper, and we encourage our employees to use cloth bags.
Wildlife protection
We promote and implement strategies that help mitigate the impacts generated by infrastructure works aimed at the protection and conservation of wildlife.- Development of environmental education campaigns
- Installation of vertical gardens and perches that attract wildlife.
- Support for organizations dedicated to the protection of wildlife.
